I heard voices coming from the next room and i thought nothing of it
Yet as i heard a few words my interest grew a bit
As i approached the room my mind was racing with amazement from the people i saw
An incredible group of minds surrounding 1 man who on that night stood tall
His back was to me so his identity to me was in doubt
But the minds around him were breath taking so i didn't care to find out
I sat next to Rosa Parks and heard the words of W.E.B. DuBois
I listened to the lectures of Malcolm X and Dr.King as they debated which way to live was the right choice
I heard the sweet majestic sounds as Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald sung a duet
I was speechless as i took in the melodies of Louis Armstrong's trumpet and Ray Charles' piano, a night never to forget
What was this amazing party of great African Americans from the past?
Better question being who was this man towering over everyone who soon i would meet at last
I sat in the small circled grouped of curious minds as Langston Hughes and Paul Laurence Dunbar recited their works
Laughed harder then i ever did listening to Red Foxx and Richard Pryor shoot jokes back and fourth
Watched in satisfying silence as Tupac & Biggie peacefully together wrote lyrics for a new song dedicated to this mystery man
All of a sudden the whole room went silent and the mystery man came in to view... first thing he said was Yes We Can
For the next hour i was stone still in shock
As these great minds listened to his speech they were like little kids counting down the seconds during the last class of the day on the clock
These people were the greatest in their fields of all time
But even they felt the need to applaud and realize this great mind
...The alarm rings and just like Spike Lee's School Daze all can think is WAKE UP!
It was all a dream yet it seemed so real to me
But how could it be real all those people were no longer with us, R.I.P. the decease
But only 1 man from the dream stood out in my mind
Yes We Can - Yes We Will - Yes We Did - Its Barack Obama's time
